DarkMonkey Posted August 26, 2001 Posted August 26, 2001 I think I disagree. When sparing against a more aggressive opponent it's easy to get a feel for what it might be like in a real street fight. At the same time you get excellent practice in blocking reguardless of whether the actual consequences of not blocking would have been injuries or just recieving a "tag". I enjoy it. ~The things you own - they end up owning you.
KUGB_Chris1985 Posted September 1, 2001 Posted September 1, 2001 I think Ts757's remark about a cricketer meant a knee to the groin won't work 'cause cricketers wear a box (cup) when playing, hence making a knee to the groin useless!!! Karateka_latino Posted September 2, 2001 Posted September 2, 2001 I think sparring and self defense techinques have to be a Must in ever martial arts schools. Bruce Lee said: " A fighter who trains without sparring is like a swimmer who hasn't immersed in the water" I'm agree
thaiboxerken Posted September 2, 2001 Posted September 2, 2001 A knee to the groin is very effective and hurts.. Even if a person is wearing a steel cup, it sucks to get a knee there. At any rate, it will cause a reaction which can be taken advantage of. WadoGuy Posted September 3, 2001 Posted September 3, 2001 Sparring is VERY important. It gives us a chance to *sort of* see what being in a confrontation is like. It also allows us to work on different techniques with a partner. Through this we can discover what works and what doesn't.
g Posted September 11, 2001 Posted September 11, 2001 sparring is very important but u should have 6 more months experience so u know what your doing right and wrong and know what bad habits not to pick up
Karateka Posted September 11, 2001 Posted September 11, 2001 Sparring is key. In Karate, we are taught that through our basics, are punches are strong. It is great and I have tried it and it works. The thing I like about Kumite is that it works on speed, distance, and timing. Plus, it is cool to see how much finesse you put into a move. Also if you see other people and how they fight it is a lot of fun and it is good slamming people to the floor. "Never hit a man while he's down; kick him, its easier"Sensei Ron Bagley (My Sensei)
Joecooke007 Posted November 26, 2001 Posted November 26, 2001 Sparring is so important that it isn't funny! It shows you how to execute moves with power and timing without injuring some or getting injured your self. Sparring also allows for you to home in on your skills. Boards don't hit back. -Bruce Lee
