penguin540 Posted February 22, 2003 Posted February 22, 2003 could some please fill me in on the details of jute keen do? the only art i'm really familiar with is tae kwon do, and i've heard lots of good things about jute keen do. among other things i'd like to know what weapons, if any, are traditional in it. red belt-American Tae Kwon Do"Men have little to fear but fear itself."
larryjf Posted February 22, 2003 Posted February 22, 2003 If you mean Jeet Kune Do, that is the style that Bruce Lee made. He basically took different styles and kept whatever worked, got rid of whatever didn't work. It is a reality-based style with no kata's. I'm not sure about weapons, they may do some kind of stick fighting. But, it is definitely not a traditional style. He carried over alot from wing chun. I've only learned some stuff from books and not an insrutctor. But, I've learned parry/strike techniques and it has helped me in sparring. I also like his idea of having your strong side in the lead/front position instead of the rear. He liked striking from the front because it adds speed and leaves you open in less areas when you are striking.
Kirves Posted February 22, 2003 Posted February 22, 2003 The base art Bruce used/developed was Jun Fan Kungfu. It is separate from JKD which is a concept, not a style per se. The only person ever to receive instructor certification in JKD from Bruce Lee is Dan Inosanto (click here for his website). Inosanto has given instructor certificates in JKD Concepts to several students so now there are lots of slightly differing JKD organizations with differing goals. Some of the main ideas behind JKD is to find what works for you, not just believe what your instructor(s) tell and never be a slave to (bound by) a single tradition. Tha aim is to be skilled in all ranges of fighting, not specialice on one or two ranges. Competition fighting is not a goal, realistic street defence is.
