Okay basicly I'm going to take karate in may. The school I want to go to teachers shudokan karate. There is another school that teachers shotokan karate. What I really want from shotokan and shudokan(if there are any it donse't seem to be very popular) is a relavant and valid comparison chart. Thank you very much for your time. SaiFightsMS Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 Here is a link to the international Shudokan web site. http://www.wkf.org/shudokan.html It appears that they have similar roots in Okiniwa - Itosu. The difference being that Funakoshi then went to Japan and Kanken Toyama went to Taiwan where he also learned Chinese Chuan fa or Kwan bop. The name of the Shudokan style comes from the name Toyama gave to his dojo - Shu Do Kan meaning "The Hall for the Study of the Way" (in this case the karate-way). The name Shotokan came from the name of Funakoshi's dojo the hall of Shoto or pine.
BKJ1216 Posted February 24, 2003 Author Posted February 24, 2003 Well so which do you think I should take? White Belt- Shudokan Karate
SaiFightsMS Posted February 24, 2003 Posted February 24, 2003 Visit both schools, watch class and see from that which appeals most to you. That is where you should train.
