Tom Posted February 21, 2003 Posted February 21, 2003 I have just started Kickboxing about 2 weeks ago, and have been twice, the first time i went after i was dead, but the second time was better! The place looks like something out of Rocky!!! We have learned 2 kicks, and 3 punchs so far, and the blocking stuff, and we hit the bags afew time, which i really enjoyed! I am going to do it once a week for an hour each time, i am not looking to become superman, but just fit and good knowledge of self-defence. I was hoping you may have some tips for me? And should i buy a punchbag for my home? I am 16, and 5'11, and i am slim-to-medium build.
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted February 21, 2003 Posted February 21, 2003 yeah a punching bag would really help you work your kickboxing skills and tom i would suggest goin more than once a week, perhaps twice or maybe three times if your schedule allows? Tom Posted February 21, 2003 Author Posted February 21, 2003 Thought someone would say that! Yeah, i am doing A+,N+ and CCNA (I.T studies) on monday, tues and fridays, and my lesson is on Thursday, maybe i should think about Saturday, dont think the girlfriend will be happy though Thanks alot. And what sort of punchbag? I have done abit of TKD before, and there punchbags were soft, the kickboxing ones are alot harder... Or is that just the places i went to?
ZeRo Posted February 21, 2003 Posted February 21, 2003 a harder bag will condition your hands/feet better but they will hurt more when you first start out with it.
Tom Posted February 21, 2003 Author Posted February 21, 2003 But for the long run a harder bag is better, i guess.

ramymensa Posted February 22, 2003 Posted February 22, 2003 Once a week for an hour it's not enough. You should go at least 2 days a week ... Anyway better than staying home ... Another way for you to complement this its to work more home. You use a bag in the gym, so get another one home, you'll enjoy. Get a harder one and punch it with bare hands too, so you'll be used with the pain. When in a fight, you have no gloves and the other guy isn't quite soft, especially if you are aiming at the face Good luck and enjoy the training. And of course tell us everytime how you feel there World Shotokan Karate
Tom Posted February 22, 2003 Author Posted February 22, 2003 Well as i said, the girlfriend may not like it, but hey! So twice a week and a punchbag at home should do it? And one day i shall be a CCIE!
BlackBeauty Posted February 24, 2003 Posted February 24, 2003 great stuff tom! i go to MT training 3 times a week (just began 3-4 monthsago). i also study part-time (double degree in IT and business), work full-time and also have a weight-loss schedule (30kgs in 20 months) and am a muso too....so I'm sure you'll be able to fit another session in! What I'm missing as well is a punching bag at home....just got nowhere to hang it and don't have a good level spot for a bag stand... ==================http://come.to/BlackBeauty==================
Tom Posted February 24, 2003 Author Posted February 24, 2003 Yeah, i have aload of room for one, so should be okay, when i get around to getting one......
