shortstick Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 In Sarrada Escrima, as well as other styles of escrima there is sparring with weapons. In Sarrada we call it freeflow "The more we change, the more we stay the same"
AndrewGreen Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 Longer the weapon is; the safer the person is. Not neccessarily. We find that shorter weapons can get inside the range of longer ones making them useless. Weapon speed is very important as well, and a 2 ft stick is faster then a 6 ft hardwood one. Footwork is probably the most important element when facing a weapon of a different length, either backing of and hitting or closing the distance and trapping the larger one. Ali Posted February 24, 2003 Author Posted February 24, 2003 Hi, short stick Escrima! We also got a friend playing double short stick. But he always go "kill" when the other hold Long & Board Blade (western type), even not so long as Japanese sword. Of course, this is nice to see him fight with Wing Chun Butterfly blade (2 short weapon ) Hello, Andrew Green I agreed with you footstep is very important. And yes, short weapon can get inside. But this first you need to escape from first and maybe second attack of the long weapon. Darkness grants me pair of dark black eye,Yet I determine to look for Brightness
JerryLove Posted February 24, 2003 Posted February 24, 2003 Hi! Jerry What weapon you take??? Real one or "faked one" Knife and stick priamarily, though generally whatever comes along. While I have used a real knife in play, or when I was in complete control of the sparring situation, I would never dream of using a pladed weapon in normal sparring. Considering the damage that occurs in unarmed sparring, there would be far too many injuries and deaths. I don't know what a fake stick is, it's rare to spar with sticks, but it's done with a little more deliberation and car than most sparring. I also commonuly use other students in sparing. They make great shields adn good weapons. https://www.clearsilat.com
cavalera Posted February 28, 2003 Posted February 28, 2003 I dont do any weapon fighting, but it's pretty sweet to watch. You can check out a video of it here, http://www.libox.net/~schofz/Martial%20Arts/ and click on weapon fighting. White Belt - Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
rb Posted March 1, 2003 Posted March 1, 2003 Yeah, we start with sticks as to not injure each other....too much.
Ali Posted March 1, 2003 Author Posted March 1, 2003 Hi, Cavalera. The website has good films but the so-called weapon fighting is some sort of form that generated by Modern Wushu. Fancy but .... I would say something similar to Peking Opera. Not that practical.... Darkness grants me pair of dark black eye,Yet I determine to look for Brightness

JerryLove Posted March 17, 2003 Posted March 17, 2003 One cannot spar (fight under rules attempting to win) with pretty much any weapon, without armor. A great example of actual stick sparring would be the Dog Brothers. (https://www.dogbrothers.com). You can also look at https://www.thehaca.com for another competitive group (or your local fencing club). The SCA also likes to get up in armor and ebat on one another (I am a former stick-jock myself). By-and-large, when weapons come out, the sparring stops (some examples above being exceptions) and you end up in drills, routines, or free-form play. https://www.clearsilat.com
