Hey Ladies! (And Maybe the Menfolk as well....)

Well, I hafta start by saying I don't agree with the idea of "don't date in the dojo" because in my school, "intraschool" dating is far from uncommon. One instructor is engaged to a high-green belt, and a lot of various other people have hooked up in long term relationships, all (I think) with the instructor's knowledge. I suppose my school may be more "family-ish" than others--the two instructors are flatmates, lots of dating, we all (including the two instructors) get together outside of class quite a bit, only about 17 regular students. So, I guess it all depends on the school. Mine remains very formal and unprejudiced during class regardless of all the relationships outside of the doechang, but it all depends on how you think your school would handle it. So, like monkeygirl said, definitly you should get the head honcho's views on the matter. I'd say the route of keeping it secret would REALLY suck and be detrimental to training, and maybe even be impossible, depending on how well your other instructors know you. I know I could certainly never keep that secret from my head instructor, he would guess it the first class after the first date. So, I guess the point of this post is it's definitly not impossible to have a relationship inside the doechang, as you can tell from my school, it can certainly work out too, and can be quite a dynamic and interesting relationship.

Might as well take my advice--I don't use it anymore.

To Me Date people on the School isn't a big deal... the problem is people who go to the School To get a Date and meet girls/boys and care less about Martial Arts.

If you go to the martial Arts school to train Martial Arts and then you happend to meet a hot chick there, they good Luck.lol

I'm on a diet in order to gain some weight ... been doing it for 24 years ... doesn't work :) Well that's another story ...)

I empathize completely :) I hate being skinny, I get hurt to easily. But that's a thread in and of itself.

So back to the point. It's not just that this instructor is hot (although, this is a nice perk, especially during grappling.... :o ). He's also smart, funny, confident, good with kids.... all those nice traits women like.

I'm debating whether or not to outright tell him. Most likely, I will wait until after my red belt test (which is Wednesday, wish me luck! :D ) so he doesn't think it's just a ploy to pass my test easier (which, as stated, it is not).

All else fails, there's about 8 million Tae Kwon Do schools in my area.... One of which is taught by a former instructor of mine, if I decide after getting my red belt that my face too closely matches it

Hehe, this indeed is a slight miscalculation on my part.... but to be quite honest, there are 6 Tae Kwon Do schools within about 3-5 miles of my house..... and probably more than 15-20 more that are within the radius I'd be willing to drive regularly. And if you add to that the non-Tae Kwon Do schools, the numbers would most likely triple.

Tae Kwon Do seems especially popular in my area. There are perhaps more TKD dojangs than anything else - which almost strikes me as being strange. A lot of my friends in martial arts (other than TKD) criticize Tae Kwon Do, saying it's a dancer's art. Personally, I think this is more misconception than anything else. Generally these stories are based around the fact that "I once fought a *insert random belt here* and they really sucked!".

Ok,

You've heard both the pros and cons of dating within the dojo. Student dating student tends to be okay with most places, but instructor/student isn't. Kinda like the military. Your young so take your time. Get to know as much as possible before taking that step towards a possible relationship. As you said he's pretty new to the dojo. Everything that he does in the dojo may or may not translate outside of the building. Remember he's gotta a business to run. Also, make sure your grounded in your training so no matter what happens, you don't forget why you were there in the first place.

Hmm....

This is annoying.

Somebody got promoted to Head Instructor. I must admit, I saw it coming, considering our existing head instructor was only one belt rank higher than the new instructor, and he couldn't work five days a week.

He's also informed myself and another student that Instructor-Student relations are strictly forbidden. Doubly annoying.

And I've got this feeling that I'm going to fail my test next Wednesday (as it was postponed)
