CTpizzaboy Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 Its a powerfull punch but you have to set it up. Canh T.I often quote myself. It adds spice to my conversations.
SaiFightsMS Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 Zero when you are in a stance with one hand and the same foot in front a reverse punch is a punch thrown with the rearmost hand.
BKJ1216 Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 Can someone post some sort of illistration of this? I want to see what it looks like. White Belt- Shudokan Karate
BKJ1216 Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/karate-wood.gif would this be a proper illustration of a reverse punch? White Belt- Shudokan Karate
shotochem Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 The left illustration shows a poor stance the rear foot should be at 45 deg. While striking the rear leg should be straight not bent. Other than that it looks like a reverse punch. Also, should be sinking down a little lower in the stance to generate more power. Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.
SaiFightsMS Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 The first stance, on the left, could also be a high kokutsu dachi. Not all Japanese/Okinawan styles do really deep stances. I think the purpose behind the illustration is to show the body mechanics of breaking utilizing hips and shoulders not just arm power not to illustrate proper stances.
larryjf Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 I like the reverse punch and the wing chun punch. If i am doing parry/strike i will use reverse punch when i'm parrying inside and trapping the opponent, i use wing chun punch when i'm parrying outside and slapping opponent away. It seems to work well this way when at the same time you are leaning left/right from opponent strike.
SaiFightsMS Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 Yes and think of an oi tsuki or straight punch as a boxing jab.
