dark_adjudication Posted March 24, 2003 Posted March 24, 2003 I found out that, when doing a Tomoe Nage, if you pull real hard on the other guys gi as you go over backwards it drives their face into the ground instead of letting them land nicely on their back. I broke a guys nose with that move once! Another good one is the basic Judo hip throw. Instead of turning into them and throwing them to their front you step past them and throw them backwards over your hip. Do it right and you can land them on their head and break their neck. Kids, don't try this at home... "There is only one tactical principle which is not subject to change; it is, 'To use the means at hand to inflict the maximum amount of wounds, death, and destruction on the enemy in the minimum amount of time.' " Gen. George S. Patton Jr.
kle1n Posted March 24, 2003 Posted March 24, 2003 i havent done tomoe nage in aikido yet Be everything. Be nothing.
Kensai Posted March 24, 2003 Posted March 24, 2003 Tomoe nage is really more of a judo/jujutsu move and not one of the Six pillars of Aikido, so its not so often taught. But if you can do good Ushiro Ukemi (backward breakfalls) then you can do tomoe nage.
Kyle-san Posted March 25, 2003 Posted March 25, 2003 Mmm... I love doing tomoe nage, it's just so fulfilling. A great little variation if you ever need to use it would be to aim a little lower with the foot and dig it into the groin instead of the stomach. That'll open their eyes.
