TKD Sparring: When and How

Recommended Posts

In our School White Belts were allowed to spar when they had all the techniques needed for sparring.

Now in our school you could be a white belt for around 4 to 5 months, not like the usual 2 to 3 months most of the school used to test.

It was a light sparring only to look for proper distance timing and skill.

My school doesn't start sparring until orange belt.....at which point full contact sport fighting (meaning no kicks below the belt, but anything else) is allowed. In brown belt and up classes, full contact, no gear sparring is allowed.

Your stories of being kicked in the.......special spot....remind of one of the black belts at my school....she's a former army woman, and has a painful habit of using extremely fast front kicks to the waist to her advantage...but sometimes, especially on tall ppl like me, she misses (*wince*)

My new school, sparring starts at purple belt (5th gup). Except for me LOL. I was told I can spar when I started hehehehe. Tonight I sparred a 4th gup, and got my arse kicked, though. Sheesh he was fast and hit like a horse!

Grappling type sparring starts at white belt.
