Karateka_latino Posted February 21, 2003 Posted February 21, 2003 In our School White Belts were allowed to spar when they had all the techniques needed for sparring. Now in our school you could be a white belt for around 4 to 5 months, not like the usual 2 to 3 months most of the school used to test. It was a light sparring only to look for proper distance timing and skill.
penguin540 Posted February 22, 2003 Posted February 22, 2003 My school doesn't start sparring until orange belt.....at which point full contact sport fighting (meaning no kicks below the belt, but anything else) is allowed. In brown belt and up classes, full contact, no gear sparring is allowed. Your stories of being kicked in the.......special spot....remind of one of the black belts at my school....she's a former army woman, and has a painful habit of using extremely fast front kicks to the waist to her advantage...but sometimes, especially on tall ppl like me, she misses (*wince*) red belt-American Tae Kwon Do"Men have little to fear but fear itself."
Blade Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 We started after learning some punches and kicks in white belt, but we do light contact.
hogwan Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 When ever you start sparring..for the love of all that's holy...keep your hands up! There is NOTHING worse than watching a fight where the hands are flopping around tha waist while trying to take each others head off!. Its a problem here even... karatekid1975 Posted June 20, 2003 Posted June 20, 2003 My new school, sparring starts at purple belt (5th gup). Except for me LOL. I was told I can spar when I started hehehehe. Tonight I sparred a 4th gup, and got my arse kicked, though. Sheesh he was fast and hit like a horse! Grappling type sparring starts at white belt. Laurie F
