Kensai Posted February 15, 2003 Author Posted February 15, 2003 To my knowledge Sai, Sanshou is not a style. It is the chinese word for kumite. Something like "BaGua chuen SanShou", would basically mean in english, "Eight Trigram Palm, Free style sparring". Most people, when they refere to Sanshou, probably think of the things they see the Chinese military doing which is Eagle Claw Gung Fu or Kuai Jiao (Chinese fast wrestling).

It is still fairly awesome to watch and a skillfull fighter trained in its precepts would be hard to handle for martial artists of most other genres.
Kensai Posted February 16, 2003 Author Posted February 16, 2003 Hell yeah. Those Chinese stylists can mix it with the best of 'um.
jeffin Posted February 17, 2003 Posted February 17, 2003 Hmmmm. sanshou has given me bad impressions mainly due to its relationship to SCARS. My impressions were of very complex techniques, the videos I saw were of throws which took a long time to execute and had a lot of moves inherent in the technique. However if they spend the time on the basics like muay thai then I am sure it is good, not a big fan of complex techniques. When the adrenaline rush hits and the tunnel vision starts your target areas blur and your throws and grappling need to be instinctive. Please provide me with links or any information or tell me if I just visited a mcdojo website. pete, The superior man is modest in his speech, but excels in his actions.Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC)Crosstraining in bjj/silat/muaythai/jkd/JJJ/kickboxing
