thaiboxerken Posted August 7, 2001 Posted August 7, 2001 Yep, you never want to be one of "those" people that have the belt but not the skill. 3rd dan and stuff like that doesn't matter, it's the journey that matters the most, not the destination. Keep working hard, set short term goals and before you know it, you'll reach your original goal and want to set more challenging ones. Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me Apprentice Instructor under Guro Inosanto in Jun Fan Gung Fu and Filipinno Martial arts.Certified Instructor of Frank Cucci's Linxx system of martial arts.
Angus Posted August 7, 2001 Posted August 7, 2001 "it's the journey that matters, not the destination"... Right on! Angus Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.
moobrack Posted August 10, 2001 Posted August 10, 2001 I think that my short term goal is to pass my Shodan in september. My long term goal is to become an instructor and begin my own association and my own string of worldwide clubs.I know it seems a bit ambitious but it is sumthing to work for. _________________ This Message was edited by: moobrack on Aug 11, 2001 12:53pm Anthony Bullock1st Dan Black Belt - Shotokan Karate5th Kyu Yellow Belt - Aiki-Jutsuhttps://www.universaldojo.com Coming Soon
Valn Posted August 25, 2001 Posted August 25, 2001 For the short term I will continue Karate in shotokan and goju ryu until december. After that I will quit both of them and concentrate on Wing Chun. Right now, I kind of regret investing all this time in karate because in terms of fighting skills I would have been far higher if I done wing chun. Wing Chun: Block and strike at the same time. This art is made for street fight. Accuracy and perfect timing is what this art is all about.
angiewinter Posted August 25, 2001 Posted August 25, 2001 My goal is to get as far as i can in shotokan and kobudo, and to gain the respect of others by being the best i can be ang Angela Winterorange belt, shotokan karateKarate International Black Belt Schools UKNEVER BE INTIMIDATED, NEVER GIVE UP NEVER BE DEFEATED. you are what you are.
ts757 Posted August 26, 2001 Posted August 26, 2001 I like to focus on the techniques that are required for my belt, getting them as good as possible and only then will I grade. Unless there are other factors involved. Quality not quantity, thats my rule.
angiewinter Posted August 29, 2001 Posted August 29, 2001 My brother, Stephen, also known as Winterkarate, his goal is to beat everybody's score in gradings and i told him as long as he tries his best he will be the best, getting the highest score is just an added bonus! Valn Posted August 30, 2001 Posted August 30, 2001 For all the belt test that I have taken in goju I have always worked very hard. For instance, I would increase my training dramatically when I know I will be testing. However, after watching other students passing with sloppy performance I must say that I am kind of disgusted. Right now, I will be testing for my 5th kyu in about two weeks and I absolutely don't care about passing or failing. Ah well, I still have to deal with my dojo until december 4th 2001.
Karateka Posted August 30, 2001 Posted August 30, 2001 angiewinter, You can gain respect not be skills, but by the way you treat others and they way you handle yourself under pressure. I know that I would respect an in control white belt than an angry black belt. "Never hit a man while he's down; kick him, its easier"Sensei Ron Bagley (My Sensei)
