jiu-jitsu fighter Posted February 11, 2003 Posted February 11, 2003 i fought this guy who asked me to spar at the gym 2day ,his style is not important, and before we spared he wanted me to show him some moves so i showed him a few and tried teaching him them, when i tried teaching him the techniques (as i was showing him) he was resisting stating that my techniques wouldn't work and that i would not be able to use them do any of you ever been in this situation how did you prove your techniques did work, p.s. when we sparred i put him to sleep (rear naked choke) "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
Mr Heel Hook Posted February 11, 2003 Posted February 11, 2003 In truth it has only happened to me twice. Both times I challenged them to prove me wrong in which they failed. Both times I walked away "proving" my point but being a little bit annoyed by it. I didn't like that I was asked to show something and then only told I was wrong and it wouldn't work. Why ask at all then? But I suppose some people just need to be proven wrong. But in truth, there is no such thing as a perfect scenario which is what most of those types of people forget. "OK, so if you do that, I'll just do this." "Then I will do this in response to you." "Well, if you do that then, I could to this." It goes on. There is no such thing as a scripted situation. Techniques happen many times because you lull or bait people into certain precarious positions. Submission is a chess match; each person counters, or tries to, to gain an advantage on their opponent. Perhaps that needed to be explained if he/she was going to throw in other variables. A response brings a counter response -- and so on. If something doesn't work, it doesn't mean it is void and has no place...it just means it didn't work that time so you move onto something else. Technique makes the whole. Not just a "move" or two. OK, well I am getting myself worked into a rant about ignorance in these situations. It's almost as bad as when someone goes on and ON righteously about things when they haven't seen the whole event...or something like that. I just don't like know-it-alls and their kin. Stop, listen, and absorb. It's what makes you grow. <---I don't know Karate. I just think this dude is cool. "A deer admires a lion. But all the members of our family are lions. So it doesn't matter which lion I admire. " -Rener Gracie-
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted February 11, 2003 Author Posted February 11, 2003 exactly, hes like oh you should never go to the ground and thats why we don't do ground fighting and that he could just roll out of my technique like i put a kimura on him from guard and he rolled but when he stopped i still had the kimura on and hes like oh thats just luck , "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
Kyle-san Posted February 11, 2003 Posted February 11, 2003 There's nothing you can really do to prove that a move works if the person doesn't want to listen. You know it works, you can apply it during sparring and that's enough proof right there. People will debate what can and can't work until they're dead, but nothing give solid evidence like it being used in a situation.
ramymensa Posted February 11, 2003 Posted February 11, 2003 JJ Fighter ... you always have nasty partners (first that 27 year old woman, now this guy). How do you do it? Guess you're unlucky ... About persons resisting techniques ... they are plain stupid. They are in the dojo, dojang or whatever in order to LEARN not to show off. When a technique is perfomed they should do their part and stop acting like children. Sorry for you having to deal with such guys. World Shotokan Karate
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted February 11, 2003 Author Posted February 11, 2003 his sifu fought my sifu and got his got his ass kicked , so a few of his students came in to take revenge if you will "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
Kensai Posted February 11, 2003 Posted February 11, 2003 I agree Kyle San. It depends really on how far you are willing to go. If its sparring between mates or people you just met, then I probably would not go all out. When it comes to demostrations, people will always try and make out that there style is better and fully resist to the point where it becomes annoying. But the key word there is "demostrations". In sparring/fighting situations, its usually a lot more Dyamic, Powerful and more mental factors come into play. Just IMHO ofcourse.
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted February 11, 2003 Author Posted February 11, 2003 srry not sifu , i don't call him that hes just a purple belt in bjj my sifu/sigung/guro was away when this happened "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"

jiu-jitsu fighter Posted February 12, 2003 Author Posted February 12, 2003 well if i didn't put him to sleep he would of said oh i could of gotten out of it "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
