BRUC3 L33 Posted February 9, 2003 Posted February 9, 2003 Any 1 know of any interesting reading on Karate/MA Not necessarly about a style in particular. Maybe something on the spiritual side, self defence, anything really!
CheekyMusician Posted February 9, 2003 Posted February 9, 2003 Well John Van Weenen's book called "The Beginner's Guide to Shotokan Karate" is interesting reading. I guess its more useful to Kyu grades, but I suppose there's a few pages that could be of interest to dan graders. Another book I liked was "Myths and Legends of the Martial Arts" by Peter Lewis. Its just a bit of light reading, but I enjoyed it. Smile. It makes people wonder what you've been up to.
Kensai Posted February 9, 2003 Posted February 9, 2003 Oh thats gotta be Karate-do KYohan. Gichin Funakoshi's book, lots of everything... from Spiritual to SD. Although its a little pricey its worth it. Ofcourse anything with Aikido in it is usually good.

Kirves Posted February 9, 2003 Posted February 9, 2003 Nagamine's book on Okinawan masters is awesome.
gheinisch Posted February 10, 2003 Posted February 10, 2003 The "Book of Five Rings" by Miyamoto Musashi is a great book on strategy. It consists of the "ground book", "water book", "fire book", "wind book", and the "book of the void". It was written in 1645 by Master Musashi, it's pretty deep but some good reading. The best thing is you can read it online if you want. Here's the link: http://www.hut.fi/~renko/gorinnosho.html Hope you enjoy!
