Ok, I have a tournament coming up soon and not only am I the Men's blackbelt competitor, but I also help in doing most peoples Self Defense. But I have a problem, I have been VERY stressed lately with family problems, friends, school, and life in general... I am low on time right now, and don't really have the money for this tournament. I want to tell me Sensei this, but I know he will be infuriated with me, and I'm not sure what to do. I honestly don't think I CAN do this though, I just can't take any more stress right now, and I don't even like going to these things really, im not a point fighter, and everyone expects me to win. Anyhow, I thought I would come to you guys for advice. What shall i do?

Honestly, it does sound like you're not up for the fight.

I would suggest that you do have a talk with your Sensei ... (... why is it that everyone seems to be unable to confront their instructors :-? )

You need to do what is best for you .... and if it is to sit this one out for the moment than that is what you may need to do. But get your life in order and continue to train in hopes of winning the next time around! :)

Don't forget that martial arts are supposed to help you find inner peace, not be the cause of stress :(

There is something seriously wrong with your sensei if he gets mad at you for going through some hard times. Take some time for yourself, do something that you really enjoy, something that relaxes you. Remember that the sun will always rise tomorrow, and nothing that happens in your life is going to change that. Most important of all, take some nice, deep breaths and spend some time with someone who cares about you. We all go through tough times; the best way to get through them is with someone you love.

I agree. Talk to your instructor.

I know what you mean by the stress...2 kids, going to college, have a job, family issues arising...and I'm only 21. Honestly though if I didn't have martial arts I would have gone nuts by now. Just hang in there. Talk it out with your instructor.

Thanks for the help guys. I wasn't saying MA stresses me out though, it does just the opposite, just this whole tournament situation right now. Ok, i guess ill have to talk to him. Thanks again :)
