Patrick Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Hey all, I know it is so far out (July 2028) that it is kind of silly to think about, but just thought I'd start a thread in case anyone ends up going to the Summer Olympics in 2028! I'm local to Los Angeles (well, I am as I wrote this in 2026, anyway), so we picked up tickets to a couple of events during the locals presale, including the JUD10 Judo Mixed Final, which will include: Women's -70kg Repechage Contests Women's -70kg Semifinal Contests Men's -90kg Repechage Contests Men's -90kg Semifinal Contests Women's -70kg Bronze Contests Women's -70kg Final Men's -90kg Bronze Contests Men's -90kg Final Seemed like a fun idea! Maybe some other community members will make it out. Patrick Patrick O'Keefe - KarateForums.com AdministratorHave a suggestion or a bit of feedback relating to KarateForums.com? sensei8 Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Yes. I’m just 5 hours north of Los Angeles. I’ve plans to attend as much as I can of Judo and TKD events. Will try to see Track and Field, Diving, Fencing, Swimming, and Equestrian. If able to, I’ll see what else I can!! Bad thing is that my wife and I can only attend the weekend events due to my wife’s work schedule as a school teacher. One thing I’ll be looking for is to eat at Cupid Hot Dogs, a staple of my youth and a must as an adult, in the San Fernando Valley which is north of Los Angeles just over the Santa Monica Mountains. 1 **Proof is on the floor!!!

bushido_man96 Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Is Karate in this Olympics? https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
KarateKen Posted yesterday at 06:31 AM Posted yesterday at 06:31 AM It sounds cool to attend the MA events, but I am guessing the cost and hassle of everything involved would be deal breakers for me. I know you have looked forward to this for a long time (and it is still a long time from now) so I hope you get to go and have a blast!

sensei8 Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago I believe that the 2028 Olympics ship has already sailed as far as Karate being included. Brisbane 2032 offers the next window for Olympic Karate's return. What karate needs for Olympic return: >Rule modifications making Kumite more continuously exciting for television audiences. >Greater unification among international Karate organizations under WKF governance. >Demonstrated youth engagement and growing participation numbers globally. >Strategic lobbying within IOC structures and among member nations. Hey, at least cricket, squash, flag football are included into the 2028 LA Olympics. **Proof is on the floor!!!
DarthPenguin Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago That decision in the olympic final when the ko'd fighter got the gold pretty much did it for olympic karate tbh. Most people watching olympic sports have a passing interest in the sport they are watching, and for most of those people to see someone get knocked out and be presented with the winners medal just looked wrong. If they want it to succeed then they either need to move towards a full contact rule set or at the least the more old fashioned shobu ippon rules i think. You can't have someone getting hit and winning if they want to stay in it. I must admit i was surprised to see flag football in the games though - it is hardly the biggest sport! BJJ gets rejected for the games even though it has a huge participation base now since the talent is basically split across USA and Brazil and they dont like that for olympic sports. While i like the NFL, Gridiron football is only played in the USA with a variant in Canada. That isn't really enough for Olympic inclusion i think, plus flag football isn't a big name anywhere!
sensei8 Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I also believe that the IOC has enough contact sport events to add Karate. Besides, enough interest has to be present to sway the IOC. **Proof is on the floor!!!
