BISON Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 Hi, I was just wondering about the purpose for hand placement closer to "the crack" in the BJJ version of the double leg takedown. Is is for greater leverage or is there some unspoken reason for doing this or what? When I wrestled, I don't ever remember aiming to cup the buttocks, but I do see this trend from BJJ in grappling and MMA matches. http://news.adcombat.com/images/articles/3117/Dsc00473.jpg
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted January 27, 2003 Posted January 27, 2003 ok very good question the reason why we do this is because, in the street you don't want to go all the way down onto your knee when doin a wrestling double leg you tend to do this, thats fine for competitions but not for the street when you don't have kneepads, to protect your knees from the pavement the guy in the picture isn't doin it right, your suppose to pick the guy up and slam him on his back than pass his guard, i think your homophobic bison? is this true? "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
BISON Posted January 28, 2003 Author Posted January 28, 2003 i'm not but that doesnt have anything to do with it. it's just that i have attended seminars/camps put on by more than a few wrestling legends, and i never remember them saying to cup the buttocks like that. yet everytime i see bjj submission match or bjj in mma, i see them grabbing buttocks firmly like that. i was just wondering the reason for it.
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted January 28, 2003 Posted January 28, 2003 thats the answer, if you can get your hands on a copy of "theory and technique, by renzo +royler gracie, than they can explain it better than i can "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
BISON Posted January 28, 2003 Author Posted January 28, 2003 ok thanks man. i know the book. by the way, i dont remember matt hughes (wrestler in one of the recent ufcs) grabbing deep into the buttcrack like that and he has one hell of a double leg slamdown.
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted January 28, 2003 Posted January 28, 2003 its really a brazilian jiu-jitsu way and thats only one variation of the double leg ,thats how i was taught, theres of course the one where you "shoot in" with one knee gliding on the ground, thats the way that most competitiors like to do it, but if you don't do it fast enough that your gonna be in trouble the technique is called bayana in portuguese ,and thats the gracies version of the double leg "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted January 31, 2003 Posted January 31, 2003 i prefer using the single leg takedown it works against bigger guys than myself, and if you catch the leg than the guy CANNOT sprawl so hes goin doin , in a position he doesn't want to be in, hope this helps bison "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
