BISON
Serious question: If you fart during a kata, do you stop and excuse yourself or go on like nothing happened? I remember years ago at a belt testing, I let one rip as I was executing a double spinning roundhouse. I went on like nothing happened. But looking back, I think maybe I should have stopped and excused myself as a sign of respect to my graders.

Kirves
Just go on as if nothing happened. It should not affect your concentration or focus.
BISON
OMG, thanks for that article. You see, it did affect my focus and concentration. I could feel it building up before I was called on to "center stage." All I could think about was the impending fart building up from the inner depths of my buttocks. Perhaps in allowing myself to become obsessed with the looming gastrointestinal disaster, instead of focusing on the bigger matter at hand, I failed myself and failed a higher purpose of kata. Never again will I allow flatulence to disrupt my inner peace during kata. Sincerely, BISON
G95champ
Go on and don't call attention to it. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
Kyle-san
Interesting. Flatulence tends to rear it's ugly head when I'm stretching, if it all. Just ignore it.
SaiFightsMS
We had a student one time who was really a prolific emitter of flatus. He was trying to be very polite and was trying to excuse himself and go out the door and let them rip. But the constant interruptions were really disturbing to the flow of class and would really disrupt peoples attention span. Far better to just let it go and forget it. KickChick
That was a great article huh??? (I believe that thread was also in the running for best thread of 2002!) Yup.... "The person who is able to disarm and eliminate a dangerous opponent and at the same time fart without wincing a muscle is surely a master." ramymensa
LOL ... guess you should continue like nothing happened. If your gi snappes when you move they could mistake your "masterpiece" for a snap ... or ... Anyway don't let anything disturb you. perform like it was somebody else and finish your kata with all the attention. It is said you must continue if you've done a mistake, let's say it was a mistake Kick ... nice thread ... you know what ... ya men/women are twisted indeed World Shotokan Karate
