I don't feel like spending the first 5 or 10 minutes of class sitting quietly and meditating is the most efficient use of that time. I'd much rather get them started on the physical training. If students would want to show up early to meditate for a few minutes before class, I would encourage that. 10% AGREE! If you want to mediate, great ... on your own time, not mine. Come early and mediate all you want, or stay late. Either I'm ok with. If you don't want to stand behind our troops, please..feel free to stand in front of them.Student since January 1975---4th Dan, retired due to non-martial arts related injuries.

KarateKen Posted December 3 Author Posted December 3 In recent weeks I have been doing a simple one-minute meditation. It has been about three weeks of this and I find that it is a good fit. I am more relaxed and more mindful of what is happening around me, and what I am doing. One minute a day. Heck of a deal!
bushido_man96 Posted December 4 Posted December 4 That's cool. Starting out small makes it much easier to implement. Keep us posted on how this affects you. It may be worth trying. 2 https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

Typically, I hear the minimum should be five minutes, but I will fall asleep if I meditate that long. Edited December 10 by KarateKen
sensei8 Posted December 7 Posted December 7 We “meditate” 5 minutes before and after class!! It was our way because it was our founders way, and that tradition stayed with us whenever we ran our own dojo’s. Sometimes, habits are difficult to break!! Because it was our way, it’s not wrong for us. **Proof is on the floor!!!

We've done some okinage breathing from time to time in our Aikido dojo, but usually it only goes about 5 minutes or so. The more consistently you do it, you'll likely come up with a sweet spot that works well for you. 1 https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com

I busted a gut whenever I read…”I will fall asleep if I meditate that long.” As far as just how long one should meditate is left up to that person. Meditate as long as your heart leads you. **Proof is on the floor!!!
