Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.  Published in 1818 making it the oldest novel I have ever read.  That is a record that has been held since 2012 when I read Mark Twain.  Strangely, I don't recall ever reading any Mark Twain in school.  Nor did I read Lord of the Flies.

Excited to see what you think about it! The language can take a minute to get used to, but once you do it's smooth sailing.

Unfortunately the language was a problem, and I stopped reading shortly after starting. Sounds like I needed to give it more time.  I am now reading Framed by John Grisham, but I might try Frankenstein at a later time and will let you know my thoughts if I do.  Thanks for your interest.  Do you read a lot of science fiction?

If you're good with audio books, I find that older books work a lot better when listened to.

I do read a lot of science fiction. Sci-fi/Fantasy is largely what I read for entertainment.
