pandaGIRL Posted Monday at 11:27 PM Posted Monday at 11:27 PM for me it's actually better they are without pockets honestly. i think too many distractions nowadays. people would be on the cell phones , waiting for an important call, etc
KorroddyDude Posted Tuesday at 02:09 PM Posted Tuesday at 02:09 PM (edited) There's a potential for this to slippery slope into demands for cargo pockets. And when videos of karateka wearing these start making it to YouTube, you'll have the latest wave of "American jokes" since camouflage belts. Edited Tuesday at 02:16 PM by KorroddyDude
Zaine Posted Tuesday at 02:39 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 02:39 PM I still want pockets in my gi pants, if for no other reason than that it would make changing a lot easier. If I could just put on my pants at home and put my cellphone, keys, wallet, etc. into my pockets that would be ideal. I would take them all out before class, but it would make my life more convenient. Martial arts training is 30% classroom training, 70% solo training.https://www.instagram.com/nordic_karate/

Zaine Posted Tuesday at 03:53 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 03:53 PM Sure, but I don't want a fannie pack. Fannie packs are an additional piece of clothing. I don't want that, I want my gi pants to have more functionality. 1 Martial arts training is 30% classroom training, 70% solo training.https://www.instagram.com/nordic_karate/
Wastelander Posted Wednesday at 02:23 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:23 PM I've seen one or two gi that have a pocket for a mouthguard, but that's obviously too small for much else. I could definitely see the benefit of having one normal pocket in the pants, but I do think adding more or bigger ones would be inviting people to carry around phones or keys on the mats, either by accident or on purpose. KorroddyDude Posted Wednesday at 04:31 PM Posted Wednesday at 04:31 PM (edited) Well, you could always go to your nearest alteration shop with some white fabric and ask them to add pockets to the pants. In the case of front pockets, they'll have to be similar to back pockets as was the case with Navy dungarees back in the back in 80's and 90's. I just hope your gi top is long enough to cover them, as the pockets might be bad for the aesthetics. Edited Wednesday at 04:38 PM by KorroddyDude
sensei8 Posted Wednesday at 05:47 PM Posted Wednesday at 05:47 PM It’s 2025 and I still don’t want pockets on my gi pants. Call be old fashioned or call me close minded, but I just don’t see a benefit for having pockets. So I can carry coins or keys while I train on the floor?? Ouch!! 1 **Proof is on the floor!!!
KarateKen Posted Wednesday at 07:54 PM Posted Wednesday at 07:54 PM I'm holding out for the gun holster attached to the belt. My ground game isn't very good, and I figure the threat of getting shot would eliminate a lot of take down attempts.
