Spartacus Maximus Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 Although creating kata isn’t something done to my knowledge, it is a grading requirement from 3rd dan to come up with logical and possible creative interpretations of existing kata. The only limit are the main principles and guidelines. Within these loose boundaries, almost anything that could or might work is acceptable.
sensei8 Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 I was at the dawning of Musical Kata's back in the 1970's, and grading for that new and strange division was based on effectiveness and believability. Far fetched movements received the very lowest score. Then that division was at the cuspid of adding emotional content, one that told a story, so much that your Kata had to pull on judge's heartstrings.I'm not even sure if that type of divisions still remain. In short, I've not seen that division in long while; last I judged in one was mid 1980's. I mean, that division was the rage of the page back then. It saw the sun rise and set in practically one deep sigh. **Proof is on the floor!!!
