LOILOI44 Posted January 14, 2003 Author Posted January 14, 2003 if you don't like bjj DON'T STUDY IT , NO ONE CARES I have nothing personally against bjj. I think it's brought great exposure for the other arts out there. I'm just not a fan of the bravado that seems to follow it. I only know what I have seen in MMA competitions. I was just trying to get insight as to what the difference between traditional Jui-Jitsu, Judo, and BJJ. As far as who's better, it's just oppinion.
Venezolano Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 :s you are flaming BJJ, and if for you Judo is the best, why you want to learn about BJJ if it sucks for you? Valencia - Venezuela.
Freestyler Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 Many techniques? Heaps! Throws? No, not that I know of we learn some throws from Judo I assume, such as the hip toss. I think the techniques are more take downs than throws. I don't know much about jiu jitsu and judo, so I can't tell you the difference. Have you read up on the history of BJJ? It might explain why it's so similar to you.
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 i learned a few foot sweeps, hip throw, hip toss, o soto gari, sholder throw, single leg, double leg, and firemans carry. don't tell me there no throws venezolano is right , your just jealous that everyone is more interested in bjj than judo, a judo player can learn alot from a bjj player, and vice versa, but don't be a hippocrit, diss bjj than go out and study it , it might seem similar to you because they look alike, are judo , bjj, sambo, shooto the same of course not, than why are you saying bjj and judo are the same , there wouldn't be thousands of people studying bjj ,because bjj would not exist if it were the same or even similar to judo, bjj has proved itself, and continues to do so, when was the last time a judo player showed the world what he was made of? TITO ORTIZ IS A BJJ PLAYER, HE TRAINS UNDER MY GRANDMASTER, ANDRE PERDERNIERAS, AND IS A PART OF HIS VALE TUDO TEAM, so is chuck lidell , both these guys have wons so many titles in the ufc , name one fighter that has done as well as a bjj fighter , "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
jiu-jitsu fighter Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 most judo players cannot handle themselves as well on the ground as bjj players, we are just to advanced for you "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
LOILOI44 Posted January 14, 2003 Author Posted January 14, 2003 WOW...could somebody tell me when I said that BJJ sucks? If somebody could tell me how I am "flaming" BJJ please tell me. If having a different opinion than the majority is considered flaming then please let me know. I said "As far as who's better...I will bet money on the best The Kodokan has to offer against any of the Gracies." That is an opinion! Maybe my intentions came off wrong. The only thing I knew about BJJ was watching the Gracies compete, and what I see in magazines like Black Belt. I wanted to find out more about the art. As far as performance goes...I do not know of any Judoka who have competed in the UFC. Please let me know if anybody knows of any. I also don't know of any BJJ players who have competed in any major Judo tournaments. Please enlighten me. From what I have seen BJJ is a very effective martial art in MMA competitions. But I don't think they cornered the market on effective unarmed combat
Kyle-san Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 WOW...could somebody tell me when I said that BJJ sucks? I wouldn't worry about jiu-jitsu fighter too much, he loves to promote his art every chance he gets. Fairly verbally and agressively, like he's got something to prove.
Kensai Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 If you wanna make this an issue between Judo and BJJ. Just look at the 2 big cheeses in each style. Helio and Kimura. Now who won that match on the ground? It was Kimura. So a Judoka defeated a BJJ player on the GROUND! Amazing, that must mean that Kimura studied BJJ? However I would agree with LOILOI44 this time, I would take a Kodokan Judoka over most other grapplers.
Venezolano Posted January 14, 2003 Posted January 14, 2003 ? so you're gonna judge it only by one fight.. don't you remember when the gracies wnt to a Judo school and defeated all people there? at least i don't waste my time training in a bs like aikido Valencia - Venezuela.
