Spartacus Maximus Posted July 26, 2020 Posted July 26, 2020 In many dojos in Okinawa, kata applications are taught and practised as two person drills. The kata is broken down into different sections and each of these has a specific technique pattern. These are meant to illustrate a key concept in its most basic form. Later on as students get better, they are introduced to variations in the applications. For instance, if the first attack in a given section is a mae geri, it is switched to a different kick. Initially, though everyone begins by first learning the set applications and identifying the key principles.
