John G Posted January 12, 2003 Posted January 12, 2003 Talk about fanatical, read what this person has to say about children and martial arts. Your thoughts? http://www.libertocracy.com/Webessays/Sports/abuse/Martial_Child_Abuse.htm John G Jarrett III Dan, ITF Taekwon-Do
MantisWarrior Posted January 12, 2003 Posted January 12, 2003 well im not a parent but my kids will learn MA and i will inspect the school there going to learn at. if u told some of that stuff to my younger aged Kung Fu brothers and sisters they would laugh. Fighting out of hate brings only disgrace.
Freestyler Posted January 12, 2003 Posted January 12, 2003 I thought the article had some valid points about that particular dojang, maybe. I can't say, I haven't seen it. But, it seems way over the top. If the kids really were scared and disicplined through hitting, that's fair enough. But, as for martial arts for children as a whole, absolutely fucking ridiculous! One thing that irritated me more so than the rest of the article: 'Training boys to fight girls teaches them that violence against females is acceptable.' Obviously this person is from an older generation, or at least holds old values. Don't get me wrong, I don't condone wife bashing, or girl bashing. But, if a guy is in danger physically from a girl - she looks like she could drop them, or could fight, I see nothing wrong with hitting them. Actually, come to think of it, I don't think I could hit a girl unless I thought she had a knife, was going to kill me, or something similar.
omnifinite Posted January 12, 2003 Posted January 12, 2003 Sounds like one horrendous dojo. Of course that means every dojo everywhere is evil. 1st Dan HapkidoColored belts in Kempo and Jujitsu
G95champ Posted January 12, 2003 Posted January 12, 2003 (edited) As far as learning MA kids can't. Its way to mental. However they can learn basics and make it more a class that works on basic skills. Then by their early teens you can begin to teach them. Edited January 13, 2003 by G95champ (General George S. This organization is listed with the US govt as a known cult. I will try and find the link (I lost it on an upgrade) It is a sight by the US govt listing all of the known cults and suspected ones with a history of all the alleged and litigated offenses. Thats if the link Queen dont beat me to it Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.

monkeygirl Posted January 13, 2003 Posted January 13, 2003 First of all, I tend to be a little wary of any author who claims to know so much about the female sex, yet doesn't even know how to spell "women". Secondly, I must be a freak of nature, considering that girls would never choose to put themselves in a fighting situation. I could say much much more, but I'm not going to really get into this. I think it's pretty obvious that Mr. Sullivan (the author) knows very little about the martial arts in general. I think he read the news article, felt outraged and decided to make an essay out of it. I stopped reading the article after his fourth time repeating himself ("Boys are naturally going to fight, blahbeddy blahbeddy blah"). I wish there was some way I could get in touch with him. What strikes me as interesting is that he uses the newspaper article as a source, and many times quotes from it (see his definition of what a bo is), yet conveniently leaves out the part that mentions that Tiger Kim's dojo is "the exception and not the rule". However, even that source isn't exactly reliable since he claims that Bruce Lee studied "Kung Fu rather than Tae Kwon Do". It's truly a shame when speedy typers get outraged and decide to write an essay using long, long sentences; then gloss them up with big words. (That last sentence was an example. See? It's not pretty.) So much for me not getting into it... 1st dan & Asst. Instructor TKD 2000-2003No matter the tune...if you can rock it, rock it hard.
