sensei8 Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 Do our emotions betray us??As a person??As a MA??I believe either of those two can't be separated, but then again, that might be possible. We tend to behave as humans because we are humans, and in that, we stumble even during the most simplest task.No matter the training, we often tend to overlook that which we shouldn't, and before one realizes it, the shoe is on the other foot, and usually at the most impromptu time.Bruce Lee's most famous quote states...."Emotional content, not anger"!! Of course, anger's not the only emotion that should be guarded from, and over, because when emotions betray you, and they will, how one will address them will just make or break the outcome!! **Proof is on the floor!!!
Spartacus Maximus Posted July 17, 2019 Posted July 17, 2019 They are usually at the root of rushed decisions and clouded judgement. Anger and other strong emotions often lead to mistakes that are always regretted later after the heat of the moment. Luckily most of the time it serves as a life experience opportunity to learn a lesson. As a martial artist in training or in self defense, it can be painful if lucky or crippling to deadly at worst. Contrary to popular thinking anger is only one of many emotions that requires management and control. A person who is unable to control their own emotions is very unstable and unpredictable. If that person also has even a minimum of martial arts training, they are also potentially dangerous to themselves and everyone else around whenever they experience an emotional outburst.
sensei8 Posted September 15, 2019 Author Posted September 15, 2019 When rank is valued above all things, then those targeted emotions betray the MAist daily. Everything that they strive towards seem to be geared in achieving things that are more tangible than things that aren't more tangible; not their effectiveness across the board, but nevertheless status was always over knowledge and experience.Do they train for the acceptance of others, or do they train for themselves?? Is what others thing about them overrule improving their own MA betterment?? **Proof is on the floor!!!
