AndrewGreen
Depends on tactics and ability. Bo has a longer reach. Nunchaku sucks to block with. Bo can be grabbed with the free hand. But why not just go spar them instead of talking about it? I give an edge to the bo, based off of many sparring sessions. I would also recomend against holding the bo in thirds... Drunken Monkey
how about the chinese 9foot pole wing chun style? or even just the shaolin style with the long pole? i have to admit i don't know much about karate's use of pole weapons. if it was a chinese staff style against the chucks, i'd have to say the pole will win. post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." AndrewGreen
Longer does not always mean better, it just means better at a further distance, in close a 9 ft staff is near useless and that is where the guy with the nunchaku will be trying to get. Drunken Monkey
well i wasn't talking about the length, more about the different style/techniques of pole form. i know know that the pole has a limited use up close, that's why we have the butterfly knives for that... post count is directly related to how much free time you have, not how intelligent you are."When you have to kill a man it costs nothing to be polite." Treebranch
If both were equally skilled with their perspective weapon the bo staff has the advantage. The bo staff in the right hands can defeat many short range weapons such as nunchaku. Musashi Miyamoto lost against a Master of the Bo Staff. Shorin Ryuu
I'm not going to say one is better than the other in a fight. I just do want to mention that the nunchaku can be a very defensive weapon, and that all the spinning and Hollywood moves sort of blind people to half of its application. If you watch nunchaku kata (traditional as opposed to a tournament kata) you might be able to see some of those. I am not super great with nunchaku, but I just wanted to say something that I do not think was mentioned earlier. You might find more things resembling a bo than nunchaku, unless you want to use your belt or something. fireka
okay, technically Bo would make more since. however, just because thats the kind of flashy hollywood style Apollo Creed fighter that i am, i would LOVE to see a nunchuku wielder deafeat someone carring a nine foot pole. that would look so cool! AndrewGreen
It's just strategy and timing. Close and wack'em in the head really hard, then follow up with a few more wacks... It wouldn't be very flashy though. Andrew Greenhttp://innovativema.ca - All the top martial arts news!
