mArTiAl_GiRl Posted March 20, 2003 Posted March 20, 2003 At The beginning of the Kata Unshu it looks like you're holding a gun and then shooting with each hand (in the shito-ryu version) LOL. Kill is love

rowland Posted March 28, 2003 Posted March 28, 2003 the point of any kata is to familiarise ones slef with the correct postures and brething method to optimise both attack and defence. In this way any series of stances or motions correographed to acheive this can become katta. With reference to the mathematical analysis of gunfights, the trajectories of gunfire fired from a human would take up highly predictable vectors. These statistics would be more variable than say blows delivered by a melee weapon, or by a fist, foot or swede, yet they would be calcuable. Note also the degree of exerience required to accuratley use a firearm in a combat situation, esecially an automatic. With agility, strength and the indominable spirit, a master of any martial art would be able to disarm such an assailant at close quaters. With firearms training this master could also utilise a lightning fast attack capability. I believe their is a future for gunkatta. It would depend on a master both creative and bold enough to begin a dojo and with the aid of enthusiastic students develop authentic combat tactics, aimed at self defence encorporating pre emptive attack techniques and postures designed at reducing the target presented to the attacker. Personally i believe that to poopoo this as a film fad and not to embrace and incorporate it into existing martial arts is narrow minded. We could be looking at the beggining of a new martial form for combating the dangers to the 21st century person."a samuri must take each decision wihtin the space of seven breaths" Yammomoto Tsunemoto; Hagakure (Hidden Leaves)
rowland Posted March 28, 2003 Posted March 28, 2003 zr440 how can make such statements. Dont answer, the question is rhetorical. Answer this, should people crazy enough to want to take up aikido be forbidden from owning a jo or bokken. You fear your inadiquacy and unfamiliarity with the firearm. As for the NRA they are also a martial organisation. Perhaps such gun clubs could be aproached to conferre, assimilate and share tactics, both armed and unarmed. P.S.For short range accuracy, maximum stopping power and reliability i reccomend a .45cal large frame revolver from either Colt or S&W. "The way of the warrior is courage, his path to seek and embrace compassion. The way of the monk is compassion, and his path is too seek and utilise courage." Yammamoto Tsunemoto
ZR440 Posted March 28, 2003 Posted March 28, 2003 You are sadly mistaken, my friend. I've been hunting and target shooting for 2/3 of my life. I also have a concealed weapons permit issued by the State of Michigan to carry my .40" cal compact semi-automatic handgun. The NRA is an organization that stands for protecting the right to keep the firearms that the liberal idiots want to ban. They instruct people of all ages on the proper use of firearms for hunting and target shooting and self defense purposes. I have taken such courses from them. I have shot hundreds of rounds under the supervision of their instructors. My weapon of choice falls under the category of a dangerous weapon just like a bokken or knife or whatever, only my weapon is more effective. But with that effectiveness carries a responsibility that should be only given to those who complete a certified firearms course and background check. It's happy hour somewhere in the world.
rowland Posted March 29, 2003 Posted March 29, 2003 zr440 forgive the assumption, i mean no disrespect. Yet you throw around words like "idiot" and "crazy person" and you carry a concealed handgun (now banned in my country) Tho you have taken time to reply to this post, i fear you have both missed my point and further contradicted yourself. By your own admission you have trained in the use firearm, studied techniques designed to improve your skill and the safety whith which you handle a firearm, a "gun katta". A limited application i know, however by your own judgement you are an "idiot". However you seem to possess the notion of responsibility, this i commend. Perhaps individuals like yourself could incorporate (within limits) the knowledge of effective, safe, and moral use of fire arms within the disciplin of you martial style. The person who does so would definitley draw a crowd. If studied sufficiently, and applied correctly this incorporation could save lives by exposing people to such theoretical situations. Giving them the knowledge may increase the probability that they survive an armed encounter where running away is not an option. Once started, the interactions of students and teachers would develop the style further. On a lighter note, arn't the NRA all a bit Political ? And this talk of "The Left", have They replaced "The Blacks" and "The Reds"? Concerning your friend in the special forces, his opinion is valid and from the experience of warfair, applied on the battlefield. He clearly doesn't appreaciate the extent to which gun crime has infiltrated society. Gangs now shoot each other in boaring districts in England and Wales (FFS! ), thanks to second hand IRA guns,( probably hand me downs from all the NRA members in Boston) and people are held up at gunpoint for money, then shot to ensure they dont identify their assailant. Being frank, and not meaning to offend, my opinion of the US forces is that their training is far below standard and without their numbers and technology they would fail tests against more vigerously trained individuals of fewer number. To blindly cynicise ideas because they were presented in a glamerised, artistic form is a restricted way of thinking. BTW Martial Girl do you mean Street Fighter 2? If so, i remember Ryu, Ken and Akuma useing the "pistol stance"!"Better dead than Red " John F. Kenedy
