Spartacus Maximus
What are good alternatives to striking posts or heavy bags? Ideally something that can easily be set up and put away when not in use. It also should meet these two conditions:A) indoor use in a small room 9sq meters. The room is rented and on the second floor. Modification or “construction” such as fastening anything to the walls, ceiling or floor is not permitted. B) using the equipment must not produce excessive noise which might annoy neighbours above and below. So far much of the training requiring hitting some kind of equipment has been done outdoors or in other places, but it would be convenient to be able to do it inside at the regular dojo.Any ideas? sensei8
Those are some very strict condition parameters. The size of the room is roughly just under 100 square feet; 10' X 10'; very doable.So...>Free Standing Punching Bag: You can set it up/down quickly, and the bottom is secured/screwed into a weighted base. When finished with your workout, unclip the top of the bag from the eye screw, and store the bag out of the way, like under a bed or in a closet or in a corner.>Punching Bag and Stand: You will stand on the platform and punch the bag, which is attached to the platform on an adjustable pole, that gives with each punch, with the bag attached to the very top of said pole. When finished with your workout, unscrew the pole from the platform, and store both the platform and the bag/pole under your bed or in a closet or in the corner.Either way, the vibration will carry to the downstairs neighbor with either choice. Some to the upstairs neighbor with the first choice. Place underneath any base, a one section of a puzzle jigsaw mat to absorb the vibration. singularity6
The Century Versys V1 seems like it might be a decent bag to train with: Sand-filled base vs. water-filled base would make it much quieter. The V3 looks like it could be an interesting bag if you want to get creative with your training. While the reviews I've read claim they can take a hit, I don't think you'll develop much power hitting those, however.Maybe a kicking shield and a partner would be a way to go? I thought about that, too... but my wife hates holding the shields for me! 5th Geup Jidokwan Tae Kwon Do/Hap Ki Do(Never officially tested in aikido, iaido or kendo)
DWx
Seems like you might be a bit limited. I think even free standing bags are going to be noisy, especially if you're bouncing around on the floor. What do you want it for? Does it have to be something your can practice full power strikes on? JR 137
As singularity6 said, the only thing I can think of is the Century Versys bag. I don’t think it’ll have that loud rocking/bouncing noise a hard plastic base filled with anything substantial will. It’ll topple over, so if you’re doing anything beyond moderate power stuff (or perhaps even moderate power), you’ll have to pick it back up.Have you considered a double ended bag?I’ve been meaning to rig up a slip bag aka maize bag. Perhaps that’s an option too. Or simply have someone hold a kicking shield and focus mitts.
Spartacus Maximus
Also forgot to mention that it should be for individual work so having someone hold it while another strikes is out. What is a double ended bag and how is it used?
JR 137
Double ended bag. I didn’t watch very much of it, so no comments on the instruction from me... Slip bag approximately 50 seconds in...
kicking
Double end balls are great.
mirkoinbrazil
I love the wavemaster xxl or the bob bag that has the boxing trunks. Those bags fill up with water and are pretty heavy once filled, I feel i got a stronger punch by putting my hands on the bag and pushing it back like i was shoving it, it makes for the perfect resistance. Actually, you need to learn to have a good shove because you may can end a fight right there with a shove when they see how hard it is.One other thing I got from ringside.com is resistance straps. Get the heavy duty one that has a handle on both ends, its great for doing punches and will put a little muscle on top of your shoulders. You just hold a handle in each hand, and have to strap going around your back. its great, and cheap.,, pushups are cheap too.I like weighted gloves also.,, speaking of gloves, use them when you punch your bag, protect your hands!!!I just noticed that you said you were on a second floor. Is this an apartment where you have someone living under you? They may not like the noise of you going at it on a bag and report you. Maybe you can get them to come up and train with you.
