What are your thoughts on Iaido?

I'll keep that in mind when I retire.

Being from Kentucky, the single-digit high temperatures we see semi-frequently during the winter months might be a bit of a shock. :-P

I might agree but my dream has be to move to Alaska to retire and I actually like the cold, so all things considered it would be a tad warmer and close enough to drive to visit family. Win win. :D

The person who succeeds is not the one who holds back, fearing failure, nor the one who never fails-but the one who moves on in spite of failure.

Iaido is beautiful along with precise!! Shindokan's utilization of the Katana is effective, but the perfection of Iaido doesn't exist in Shindokan as it does in Iaido; depending on the Shindokan practitioner.

The past several winters haven't been kind to Alaska. They've been seeing record-high temperatures (especially along the cost) while the arctic air has been dipping down over the north-central and mid-western US.

According to climate scientists, the region where I live will probably have the most stable climate in the decades to come.

Already changed my mind. I walked outside yesterday heading for the truck and flew into the air when I slid on some ice. We received just over an 1/8" of ice. I always let my dogs out before I leave the house so my wife can get a few hours more of sleep and they ran across it like it was just wet. I made the mistake of not checking it before barreling forward like a bull in a china closet and flipped in the air and came down on my tail bone.

I'm still feeling it. Love the cold weather but hate the ice. Maybe I'll retire south. :D

I take it that you teach Iaido in Shindokan?

Is this apart of your weapons training or apart of your Tii training? Or was it added to the art as additional study?

Unfortunately we do not study the sword in Suidi. I would have loved to continue my studies of the art.

No!! As you know, Iaido teaches the art of drawing, where as we train the Katana for fighting!!

We train in the Katana as part of our Kobudo, in which it's been a part of Shindokan ever since its beginning.

Iaido is drawing and cutting in one fluid, quick movement. At some point in the history of Japanese sword arts, the skills of drawing and cutting became separated from the skills of fighting or duelling with the katana. Overall, the Iaido schools are much more recent than any of the ryuha teaching the use of katana.

Do traditional Iaido practice swords (iaito), made of the reglamentary aluminum alloy metal need maintenance like a real katana? For example, you got to oil them from time to time, etc
