TJS Posted February 19, 2003 Posted February 19, 2003 most MT fighter DO do swing their arm down/back when they throw one because it makes more power. It's proabably ok in a ring but in the street i would keep my hands up incase another opponet came into play...thats what we are taught in KM.
ZeRo Posted February 19, 2003 Posted February 19, 2003 i keep them up all the time. unless im just working on a bag or something where i go for maximum power and speed.

What the hell are you talking about, not once have we been told to keep our hands down whether in class or tournament,we always keep our hands up as you would on the street.
ForeverTheArt Posted February 20, 2003 Posted February 20, 2003 If your throwing a rear leg round kick for example, many do drop the lead arm while throwing the other towards their opponents face to mess up their line of site as well as to deflect any punches comein in, the shoulder should also be guarding the face too To advance the art,To honor my sifu,To fight for the sake of the fight.

When you say we pull our hands back do you mean the way traditionalists keep their fists near their belt area or do you mean for deflecting a kick? If you mean we bring one hand down to push a rear kickout of the way, then yes we do have one technique like that, but if you mean the way karate people for example punch, then no we don't have that. We don't really bring our hands back, we do push the kick out of the way or swing it by us then kick our opponent, sometimes we just block the kick,we never bring our hands back though.
kenpo4life Posted February 26, 2003 Posted February 26, 2003 MT fighter, No disrespect, but to say that kata is useless is showing a bit of immaturity. kata is a library of techniques. While we do not fight that way, it is also a way to show respect for those who fought, often to the death, so that we have a system to study today. Painters today do not use the same medium as MIchaelangelo, but nobody in the art world disrespects the Sistine Chapel. Think about it man. If my survival means your total destruction, then so be it.
