BladeLee
I don't know of any special techiniques to help him learn, but just have him practice it for a while. That's how i teach people. Very few people actually get it the first few times they try it, but after practicing for a month or so they have it done great, just by attempting to do it. Show them how its done and let them figure out the rest i guess ~BladeLee~
Blade13
Yup. I can do them. Just like BladeLee said, they have to figure it out on their own. Ive taught a few people some tricks like this and the best way is to let them watch you and try it on their own. After doing it enough, they will naturally fix their problems. Try to get them to work on their abdominal muscles though. If they can go down into a backbend from a standing position, and come back up, then kip-ups will be a lot easier. omnifinite
Is that where you're on your back and you jump up onto your feet? I can do it with a little help from my hands (the slightest pressure against the ground by my head) but not without them... weird. Maybe you can tell him he's trying to fling his legs under himself. Or tell him to take the movements he's doing and exaggerate them even more. If a kip-up is something completely different then I apologize . 1st Dan HapkidoColored belts in Kempo and Jujitsu
Kenpo123
funny this post came up when it did. I was teaching some students how to do this about a week ago. Need good flexibility and a nice loose back! You can start out using your hands but can really do it with out. The key is getting enough momemtum through bringing your legs back over your head and snapping them forward arching your back in the process and extending your feet well behind you in your landing! Takes a few times, but, if you're flexible enough you will do them easy. Used to do them all the time and can still do them. Killer Miller
I was never very good at doing that, as I recall. I had a good teacher, but never became very good at it (but not really used in my karate though). I wonder if my teacher didn't spend enough time teaching me, or was he busy teaching others how to do it. Do you have any insight regarding this Kempo123??? funny this post came up when it did.
