Karate with long hair

David Miller

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I would like to ask a question about doing Karate with long hair. During class, my hair can get a bit messy but I don't mind fixing my hair back with my hands, but in tournaments, i can't do that, especially with Katas that has dynamic and sharp turns. How can you fix the long hair problem WITHOUT tying your hair (getting a ponytail, elastic bands, braids etc)? Thanks

So your options really are to tie it back somehow or if you really don't want to do that, cut it. No amount of hairspray will help with this.

Guessing by your username you're male? If it's not too long you could always rock the David Beckham hairband look but it's not such a great solution when you're getting punched and kicked in the head as it'll be all over the place. In fact we actually ban metal hair grips and clips in our TKD tournaments due to the potential for injury.

Cut your hair! If the hair is the problem then cut it.

Tie it back, braid it up, or cut it off. I'm afraid that there isn't any magic fix for this issue
