My insturctor quits teaching!!!!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I recieved a phone call today from my Instructor. He says due personal reasons who involves financial situation, home and healt problems, He'll quit teaching martial arts.

So now, I'm homeless and since what we have been working is an hybrid style I don't have another school who teaches the same, so If i want to stay in the martial arts, i need to find a New School to train and start ALL over again...

Those aren't good news since i was very happy with my current training. :(

Gee man dat sux, sounds like ur style was unique. I do kinda a hybrid style. Pretty much a mix of TKD, karate, san shou, muay thai bjj and sambo...very muay thai-like fer striking but we also use side kicks and stuff like in san shou...and well...i suppose there isn't much difference in how sambo and bjj grappling looks, so there's the idea. What was ur style a mix of???

"razor elbows, killer knees, iron fists and monster kicks"

"Nice punch!!!, now let's see how well you punch with a broken arm"

Nasty ... Sorry for you ...

You could train with you mates, like other members already sugested. Maybe your instructor would spare some time once in a while to give you some advice. If you trained long enough, you could do something on your own. You also could join a style that's near yours and just add sometimes the thechniques that made your style special ...

It's a pity because it's not a very popular style. The good thing about those is that whenever you have to leave a dojo there are hundreds waiting for you :)

Take care and good luck. Shop around a little and I'm convinced you'll find something. Merry Xmas anyway :)

Been there. However my when my teacher closed down I was in college and was not arround anyhow. Add to that we did Shotokan so I could find a lot of info on it on my own. Several things you can do.

1. Talk to your teacher about private lessons. Maybe once a week or months. Have he show you some things to work on and you do them on your own time and week to week he can oversee you once.

2. Because your art was from several other arts it should not be hard to learn a bit about each. Try buying a good book on each art that your style came from. Ask your teacher for his ideas and what you should look for.

3. If you start another school I would assume you had enough basic info to jump in and catch on pretty quick. You may have to start all over as far as belt color but thats not why we do it anyhow.

4. Back to the private lesson idea. Get a few of your old classmates who were higher rank or the same rank and work with each other. From time to time call you teacher and see if he can help you out. This is not a class as much as training on your own with help.

5. Spend as much time as you can at KF learing about differan arts and styles. Knowledge is power.....

Hi,

Good idea about the Privates, I'll ask him. Maybe he won't say No just as long isn't too hard or too extensive. An hour a week sounds good enough.

But I still need a new School, i have an idea since i've trained Shotokan karate for a couple of years (that was my first style) and also TKD, Kickboxing and just a Little Kung Fu and Judo. So i have an idea about what i have around. We have a Combat Sambo School which isn't not too far from I live, but i've heard its expensive.

Anyway, Thanks for your advices and your support. Im still open to heard more ideas.
