Frogman Posted December 17, 2002 Posted December 17, 2002 What can you tell me about this style of Karate? I've heard it is more modern & practical than stuff like Shotokan because of the stances and types of strikes. I've also heard it has a more Judo orientated moves and self-defense techniques.
SaiFightsMS Posted December 18, 2002 Posted December 18, 2002 The little I know about Isshin ryu boils down to it being a style that is heavy on the basic moves. They strongly value a good side or front kick over a flashy jump kick. They have 8 katas. It is a pretty hard core style. Isshinryu came to this country with the marines who came home from being stationed in Okinawa. So think about how hard core marines are when you think of Isshinryu.

mobias Posted December 22, 2002 Posted December 22, 2002 Numerous circular techniques, short punches with a vertical rather than horizontal fist, double bone blocking ( radius and ulna ), not a heavy emphasis on kicking ( although there are kicks ), heavy emphasis on kobudo (weapons ).
Frogman Posted December 27, 2002 Author Posted December 27, 2002 So if it is favored by the USMC, then it's a combat-orientated style then suited for military personnel?
