tallgeese Posted May 29, 2017 Posted May 29, 2017 The past two weeks have all been about the butterfly guard for us. One of the hallmarks of all open guard work is the ideal of getting under controlling the opponents hips and working to sweep where his/her base is week. Here, we work off a counter to the more straight forward and more common standard sweep. Check it out: Who wells plays the butterfly guard frequently in their ground game? What other common counter do you have to deal with? What sweeps to you utilize against them? http://alphajiujitsu.com/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJhRVuwbm__LwXPvFMReMww
TJ-Jitsu Posted June 2, 2017 Posted June 2, 2017 I play butterfly almost exclusively now- I'm not a big fan of classic guard (where you lie on your back) anymore. Part of the reason why I do is exactly the reaction your opponent is giving in that video- people of all levels try to grab my hips and put their head there, breaking their own posture in the process and giving a great opportunity for a guillotine.
