Watching with a different perspective.

Recommended Posts

During John Wick 2 I caught myself recognizing techniques during the fight scenes.

I was like "that was a Judo throw I know, but can't think of the name."

It got me watching with a slightly different thought process.

How many of you do this?

PS. I am not thinking all their moves are correctly executed.

ME!! I do it all of the time, and have done it for as long as I can remember. I suppose that it's the teacher of the MA that's in me, as well as me just being that MAist. I've a hard time enjoying a MA movie, or a movie with MA in it because I'm too busy being that teacher and MAist.

I don't have that same problem because my knowledge base is not that deep yet.

Then again I have always been a scifi fan and am used to suspending my disbelief. We will see what happens when I learn more.

Watching with a different perspective is advisable.

Recognizing movements from different styles and similarities is all a part of the grand martial art journey.

Exercises are also worth noting from different sports.

All of this, deepens a martial artist knowledge and understanding.

I do find this subject to be very fascinating.

A recent similarity for me, was with Wing Chun and Ballet.

I annoy my wife doing this.

The fight scenes in both john wick film are quite well choreographed so I enjoyed them. If I see something totally unrealistic or a see simply wouldnt work it can take me out of the experience. Probably the same way police officers and the like would find a crime procedural show unwatchable.

Yes it is true; knowing too much can also be a spoiler for others.

We see alot of phony martial arts in movies, just need to laugh inwards as not to be a kill joy for others.

We are blind also to special effects in movies that are not very convincing to others depending on their interests and expertise.
