karate_woman Posted April 11, 2003 Posted April 11, 2003 Okinawan Goju Ryu The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. -Lao-Tse
Sergeant1 Posted April 18, 2003 Posted April 18, 2003 I study Koei-kan Karate-Do. A very realistic, practical style that incudes bogu, which is full contact fighting with armor. Lots of realistic self-defense is taught along with a lot of traditional practices as well. The great thing about Koei-Kan is that it's all one big family. The style is united. A Koei-kan school in California is assaociated with a school in NJ or Michigan ect. Everyone knows everyone. I absolutely love it. No cream puffs alowed. Even without the armor, if you take Koei-Kan, be prepared to learn how to hit and how to take a hit.
hikari Posted May 20, 2003 Posted May 20, 2003 Shito-Ryu here ) Stress - The confusion created when one's mind overrides the body's basic desire to choke the living * out of some * that desperately needs it!
Dazza Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 Tick one up for Seishinkan. (Shito-ryu -> Shukokai -> Renbukan -> Seishinkan). I bet no one has even heard of Seishinkan. If you have please give me a yell! The more you beed in training, the less you bleed in battle.
SaiFightsMS Posted May 21, 2003 Posted May 21, 2003 Actually I think there is someone around here that practices that style.
Sho-ju Posted May 26, 2003 Posted May 26, 2003 I study and teach shotokan but it isn't pure shotokan. We add a lot of Okinawan elements and throwing of newaza of judo.
