You're absolutely correct in your post; no matter the rank, what rank is at one school is not the same at another school. Today's MA society appears to be on a fast food track across the board to whatever they deem important. **Proof is on the floor!!!
ThatGUY
In our style, there are 4 levels of brown belt. 4th kyu to 1st kyu. We like to say a brown belt is a trainee black belt. Brown belt is fixing every bad habit you have picked up and ensuring you are proficient in the basics of Karate. Live and breath every breath as if it was your last. Persevere, endure, overcome and conquer all that stands before you. Remain respectuful and live the lifestyle of a true Budo-ka. Karate-ka. Remember there is always someone out there that knows more, has done more, is more. Be open, learn, respect and develop as a human and a karate-ka.Osu!
