ramymensa Posted November 16, 2002 Posted November 16, 2002 Well if I was your instructor, I wouldn't have grade you either and not because I have something against you I guess tenure (this is how you call it?) is quite important and thus you are delayed in order to get your number of training hours. School and MA are quite demanding and it's hard to cope with the stress ... Been there done that, well I'm still doing it .. and I go to work too .... Back to you ... Right now you have to chose .. Priorities are to be chosen wisely. School is THE MOST IMPORTANT, so you must have it in mind first of all. It means you'll go to traning not as often as before, but still going ... and this is important. Your sensei's choise of not letting you grade is understandable and do not feel bad about it. You'll go in march and get your next belt. You are not here to chase belts. I know it's difficult to stand the situation, but you'll be OK. Think that in december you could do OK, but in march you'll do BETTER. In some years, when you'll become BB those 3 months won't mean a thing Cheer up and ... merry X-mass. Good luck with school and take care World Shotokan Karate

Tobias_Reece Posted November 16, 2002 Posted November 16, 2002 I mean its 'stupid' you thinking that you can grade even though you fall behind in all aspects. BUT........ Don't think that getting that next belt is the most important thing in the world - so what if you miss a grading? Wouldn't it be better to be a good Purple Belt than a really bad Brown Belt?my martial art training has been paused for 3 months ^Does this mean you won't be attending classes for three months, or won't be practising? You're lost me, because as long as you're attending classes and practising, you will still learn. "You Are Never Given A Dream Without Also Being Given The Power To Make It True. ad Posted November 17, 2002 Author Posted November 17, 2002 when i said "my martial arts training will be paused for 3 months" i mean that i will be learning my the techniques that i already know for the next 3 months, so i admit that my training will not be paused and that i will be improving my techniques but i still feel slightly dissapointed to fall behind from the others in the class. Red J Posted November 17, 2002 Posted November 17, 2002 Here's a thought. What would happen if you practiced really hard and showed up more often? Do you think that your instructor might notice and say, "You have really impressed me, I'm going to move your test up"? It could happen. Maybe he's looking for your reaction to his disappointing news and this is his way of getting you motivated. I had to lose my mind to come to my senses.
Tobias_Reece Posted November 17, 2002 Posted November 17, 2002 Oh - does this mean that the students with one belt higher than you do completely different techniques, and have different tuition? Besides, if you're not ready to 'learn' these new techniques, wouldn't it be better than you stuck with the ones you knew - just to get them 'right' You should go at your own speed, its not a competition between you and your fellow students. You must realise that. Regards "You Are Never Given A Dream Without Also Being Given The Power To Make It True. Tobias_Reece Posted November 17, 2002 Posted November 17, 2002 No cheeky commments from me....just basic questions. But hey, some people might think I'm being cheeky - but I'm sure by now that everyone is clear that I have been severely offended by your original post. Guess its the Yoda coming out of me........
