Shaolin Fighter
Does anybody else here cross-train in Ju-jitsu with there kung-fu? I'm going to check out a Ju-Jitsu school Thursday. I'll be training in Kung-fu 2 days a week and Ju-Jitsu 2 days a week. What are your thoughts on cross-training with Ju-Jitsu?????????
Kensai
If you train in Shaolin you wont need Jujutsu, in the same way if you train in Jujutsu you wont need Shaolin. Both are very complete systems, that cover the whole spectrum of combat. Just IMHO ofcouse. Take Care.
Kyle-san
Yeah, I'm taking Wing Chun to tide me over until I can get back to my Aki-Jujitsu club. There's nothing wrong with cross-training, IMHO, but like Kensai said: either system is complete.
Karateka_latino
If you have the time, energy and money and can go there without any other problems. Go ahead, there's nothing wrong with crosstrain.
Freestyler
Cross-training is definitely the way to go.
Kensai
I disagree Freestyler. I have had this debate before in here. I can see the benefits of Cross Training, but I have always been a traditionalist. The style I study, Aikido, is already a mixture of Kenjujutsu, Yarijutsu, Daito Ryu jujutsu, Jujutsu, BaGua and Chi Kung. So I already have so much to learn. Its down to the individual, but Shaolin and Jujutsu, are really complete systems compared to most. Ofcourse they have to be taught well. If you study one of them really hard, you wont need another. But thats just IMHO. Take Care.
superleeds
If you put enough effort into it there are no problems, concerning cross training. Read a book!
Red J
Shaolin, ask your instructor if he teaches Chin Na. It may be exactly what you are looking for. I had to lose my mind to come to my senses.
Thai_Kick
Chin Na... I always hear about this Kung Fu art, when a topic about grappling comes along. Does anyone train in this style, have you or anyone you now entered a open grappling tournament using Chin Na and won? Can it even compete against Sambo, BJJ, Wrestling...? Limits Are Not Accepted. They Are Elbowed, Kicked And Punched.
Kensai
Chin Na, is a very powerful system of breaking and seizing. Usually involved with Shaolin and the Wudang Kung Fu. I am sure that a good practioner of Chin Na could hold there own against BJJ Sambo, as the Japanese main land arts are based on Chin Na. Take Care.
