TKD vs Karate

Just a thought, but ever thought about holding a tournament yourself?

If they are thin on the ground then you have space and opportunity to make something happen without risk of stepping on any toes ... there are none tostep on as it were!

.... or maybe a grand prix a tournament 3, 5 or 7 smaller competitions spread out around the area (a few miles from each other you get the idea). The idea is to build up to a large grand final!

Invite the winners and best runners up to the grand final!

I like the idea. But of course, don't forget go purchase insurance for your tournament.

:)

Yeah, not a bad idea, but there is a difference between simple lack of a tournament and lack of demand for a tournament. The area I'm in can barely keep Boxing gyms open. Most TKD and all karate is taught in churchs, schools, YMCAs, etc, because hardly anyone can cover overhead for 5geir own gym. It would be awesomr to have a nice big tournament, but I don't think it would work out. We don't evem do toughman around here anymore.

... test the ground!

Setup a tournament make sure to advertise in the areas you want to influence in advance of the date you pick.

As to the date research the areas a little see if you can select a date that falls outside local this or that celebrations or collage games ... you get the idea and test the ground.

Try to get feedback from club owners and fighters about the venue, the dates the format (don't blanket survey them!) just chat with them throughout the day about stuff general taking note of there replies when you mention the venue, food vendors etc!

If it does well, do the same next year!

Are you looking for open style tournaments?

Like MMA?

No, but an open format where all(most) styles are welcome to attend. These will include a wide range of styles. I'm not sure where in TX you are, but here are some I know of....

Houston - http://www.jamallnationals.com/#!home/c14q

Grapevine, TX - TForce Elite Internationals 8/13/16

San Antonio - http://www.yellowrosenationals.com/

Austin - Lonestar Open normally in October

Also check the NBL site - http://www.nblskil.com/pages/tournamentlisting.html

And these sites too - http://theaok.org/Tournaments.aspx, http://www.texaskarate.com/tournaments.htm, http://tklonline.com/tournaments.html

And finally, if you use Facebook follow 'Buckeye Karate Tournaments, Seminars, & More'. Folks post a lot of tournaments there.
