Hi,

First post here. I am thinking of starting karate lessons. There is a school here teaching Motobu Ryu. Other than Youtube videos on joint manipulation, there is little information available on this style. All I know is there are 2 components to this, with Motobu Udundi being the joint manipulation portion.

Anyone familiar with this style? E.g. the number of kata, training emphasis, etc?

Any information would be helpful. Thank you.

Motobu-Ryu (Udundi) isn't practiced by a very large group of people, but it definitely has some interesting material. From what I understand, they do teach some kata, and they also practice weapons and traditional Okinawan dance. You can find some more details at these sites:

Thank you for the links.

it is indeed very rare outside Japan. All I gathered from the instructor is that it consists of two parts. Kenpo from Motobu Choki and Udundi from Motobu Choki's family. Plus weapons. Other than that, it is short on details.
