Hello, my wife & I will be visiting Daphne AL Dec 3-6. We will miss our regular Shotokan class's on the 4th & 5th. I was hoping there was a class in the area someone could direct us to that we could visit. We are yellow belts, but close to testing for blue, so I really hate to miss class. Thanks either way.

If it is only for a few days, missing a dojo training session or two does not matter much. Taking this opportunity to set aside a few minutes of self-directed practise each day would be a good idea to be ready when the time comes to return to the dojo.

Besides this, shotokan is a very widespread style found nearly everywhere. Perhaps looking it up in the destination area's business and services directory might yield results.

Best of luck.

Contacting your regular dojo and sensei and asking about affiliations would certainly help. If there is an affiliation with a major shotokan governing body, they will have the resources and information about other member dojos across the state, country etc... If the specific city of destination has no shotokan, maybe going to the nearest metropolitan area might be feasible?

I spoke with an assistant instructor, he said we aren't affiliated with JKA. I didn't ask about any other organizations however. I will ask at our next class and see if he has any suggestions. I know my sensei's instructor is located in South Alabama, around Gilbertown. Not exactly sure where though. Again, I will ask him either at our next class or on FB.

If that school has an open door policy, perhaps, you can still visit that school, even though you're not JKA affiliated. I'm sure that the CI operates that school, and not the JKA. I believe what one does in their own school is their business, and not that of the governing body.

We don't interfere with dojo matters like this because it's simply none of our business; we don't own any Shindokan dojo. We aren't administrators of said dojo, except with the matters of testing cycles and the like.
