Punchdrunk
Thanks prodigal - fighter not style again. One cannot choose to be passive without the option to be aggressive.
ValeTudo
ROTFLMFAO ! So that rookie fool represents WC ? I think not. I could write a long list of all the holes in that guy's form (even before we talk about his pathetic girlie fight) - but my mother, God rest her soul, taught me 'Never mock the afflicted' - so I'll make only two points; 1. He's fat. 2. He doesn't know Wing Chun. Comparative styles my ar se. >>>PS<<< Do you have any videos of a "real" Wing Chun guy in a real fight? It seems to me that too often the cop-out argument made is "that's not REAL (X)" It's done in every art. So I'm just interested in any videos of real fights involving "real" wing chun fighters. Not flaming, just curious.
Prodigal Son
The short answer is no. I don't have any footage of good practitioners actually fighting - other than the Cheung catfight that we have all seen a million times. However I do have (and for a very limited time only) some footage of WC guys training. I have uploaded it especially for you Vale - so I hope you enjoy it And if you think it's shite, you can download a couple of my UK Hip Hop tunes from the same site for free. You may think that they are shite too... Anyway - although I feel his footwork is a little sloppy, and it is TRAINING, this guy is a bit more like it - and would not have cried for his mum when he got hit for the first time like that flabby idiot. You must excuse the hideous mullets, by the way - that is NOT a Wing Chun thing. http://www.leanrecords.com/WCdoesntwork/victor_gutierrez.mpg Peaz >>>PS<<< ------------------------------------------------------------------------Self-defense is only an illusion, a dark cloak beneath which lurks a razor-sharp dagger waiting to be plunged into the first unwary victim. Kirves
Do you have any videos of a "real" Wing Chun guy in a real fight? Sorry, but real WC guys don't fight in any open and filmed fights. That's the reason I dropped out of WC in about 6 months. And that I beat the * outta the instructor in free sparring. Okay, partly my fault, I pretended to be a beginner in martial arts all the way...
Prodigal Son
Sounds like a pretty whack instructor if he fell for that old chestnut ! Good work. >>>PS<<< ------------------------------------------------------------------------Self-defense is only an illusion, a dark cloak beneath which lurks a razor-sharp dagger waiting to be plunged into the first unwary victim. Kirves
Yeah, a true martial artist doesn't categorize his opponents, but often people will. They try to "shine" when they feel it is possible. Then they get trounced when a person with nearly 15 years of martial arts experience is fighting them and they believe it is a beginner... Haha! But that only shows he lacked some of the required qualities of a master. Actually, I believe he realized at some point that I know something about fighting but I think it only made him more furious, he started to fight me with more "determination" (misdirected I might commend) and that made him fall easily. But really, I think WC believes too much on the idea of "he will be shocked when I launch my aggression". It works against someone who doesn't know anything about fighting, i.e. a true "bully", but someone who is a fighter and knows his stuff won't be thrown off by WC. Just my humble opinion though. Feel free to counter it.
ValeTudo
PS, Thank you for engaging in a discussion about the subject. Most people don't. As far as the videos. I'm pretty unconvinced. You're right, this is training and it is on video (so who knows how many shots were taken). It's also on a non-resisting opponent which would, of course, make the techniques much easier to complete. Even the "sparring" was on a non-resisting partner with no real contact being made (you can see that in the slow-mo). I'm sorry, but everytime I've seen Wing Chun tried against a resisting partner, it's failed miserably. Here's a list of the Wing Chun fights I've seen: Wing Chun vs. Kyokushin (Wing Chun guy is knocked out) Asbel Cancio vs. Dave Beneteau (Wing Chun guy is TKOed) Dave Levicki vs. Johnny Rhodes (Wing Chun guy is TKOed) Scott Baker vs. Jason Delucia (Wing Chun guy is TKOed) Dave Levicki vs. Rickson Gracie (Wing Chun guy is submitted) Now, I know I know. NONE of these guys were "real" Wing Chun right? I'd really, really like to see "real" Wing Chun put to the test. If ANYONE has a video, I'd love to see it! Kirves
Well, not to stir any arguments, but IN MY HUMBLE OPINION the best testimony to WC is the fight between WT Mr. E and WC. Grandmaster C. The clip shows all there is to see about WC.

Prodigal Son
My opinion is that I agree with you. Anyone who underestimates a drunk nun is a fool, and should not be called a Sifu. And anyone who loses their cool in a fight or whilst sparring gets done - it's in the rules ! Still doesn't mean WC is not a wicked art tho >>>PS<<< ------------------------------------------------------------------------Self-defense is only an illusion, a dark cloak beneath which lurks a razor-sharp dagger waiting to be plunged into the first unwary victim.
