Check out some of the Brazilian Vale Tudo tapes from the '70's and 80's.

These are the competitions that first made the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and Luta Livre grappling oriented styles so famous for their effectiveness.

The only rules were no biting. Frankly, if you are close enough to bite me, I am close enough to bite you back so I don't feel you have lost that much with that rule.

One cannot choose to be passive without the option to be aggressive.

Style DOES matter, some are simpley more effective but it does not mean everything ...so yes ALOT depends on the fighter, the teacher and the training methods

I agree with this, and would like to add one more component: the environment. Some arts are good in some circumstances, but may be bad in other.

Enviroment does matter. Yet, it is 99 % the fighter. I dont care bout certain arts but they may be right 4 certain people. Even though they are def not right for me. A bigger slower guy might want to go with grappling and akidio.(even though everybody should be well rounded in grappling) Yet a quicker guy should go with a art like tkd or karate. It is def the person 99%.

hey have you checked out the grappler vs Wing chun guy on the same site Bullshido.com?

the WC guy put up $5000 as a challenge and John March showed up and nearly broke his arm in about 40 seconds.

I see what you all are saying about style having an impact.

I just get a little tired of the whole style superiority thing.

I have seen good and bad representatives of most TMA's and established MMA schools. Great training makes anybody better but you can't make someone a fighter who doesn't have the heart or talent. And there are a few self taught MMA fighters out there who will make you tap faster than you can say OUCH!

One cannot choose to be passive without the option to be aggressive.

Is it just me, or does the WC guy in the form not even look like he practices MAs, from a physical appearance standpoint.

I mean, I'm no major workout guy. I don't have a six pack. However, just normal practice with staff, kicks, etc. has tightened up most of my muscles. He looks very "soft". :dodgy:

ROTFLMFAO !

So that rookie fool represents WC ? I think not. I could write a long list of all the holes in that guy's form (even before we talk about his pathetic girlie fight) - but my mother, God rest her soul, taught me 'Never mock the afflicted' - so I'll make only two points;

1. He's fat.

2. He doesn't know Wing Chun.

Comparative styles my ar se.
