G Money Slick Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 People who study Aikido fall into two categories.....asians and psychos. I'd recommend jiu jitsu If your enemy refuses to be humbled......you must destroy him.
White Warlock Posted April 12, 2004 Posted April 12, 2004 Oh that's good. Dude, get out of here with that attitude. "When you are able to take the keys from my hand, you will be ready to drive." - Shaolin DMV TestIntro
Drunken_Apprentice Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 I have read many forums on AIKIDO, to me it sounds like a finishing art. Maybe you have trained in many other things for numerous years, Aikido sounds like a good addition to tac on at the end. Anyone agree to that? I totally agree, and that's been my experience as well. I went in with no previous experience, and found myself lacking a good deal of perspective on how it could be used for functional self defence. Others with a more thorough background in Kung Fu or Jiu Jitsu came in and knew how to integrate aikido with what they already knew and ... well ... wow. Aikido seems to be really good if you can anticipate the attack and if there's enough momentum to use against your adversary. If there is no momentum or if you let them get too close, then I'd sure like to know BJJ or some form of clinch fighting. To me, aikido looks like it would be most effective if integrated after the fact with another form.
