Punchdrunk Posted November 17, 2002 Posted November 17, 2002 Wise Kensai. For two of the all time great striker beatdowns of grapplers - checkout Maurice Smith vs Marcos "Conan" Siveria & Igor Vocanchyn vs Francisco Bueno One cannot choose to be passive without the option to be aggressive.
Thai_Kick Posted November 17, 2002 Author Posted November 17, 2002 Don't forget about these great striker vs grappler fights, with the striker puting the beatdown on the grappler... - Murilo Rua (Muay Thai) vs Mario Sperry (BJJ) - Vanderlei Silva (Muay Thai) vs Kazushi Sakuraba (Shoot Fighting) - Bas Ruttan (Kyokushin/Muay Thai) vs Frank Shamrock (Shoot Fighting) - Mirko Filipovic (Kickboxing) vs Kazushi Sakuraba (Shoot Fighting) - Chuck Liddel (Kickboxing) vs Vitor Belfort (BJJ) Limits Are Not Accepted. They Are Elbowed, Kicked And Punched.
Punchdrunk Posted November 17, 2002 Posted November 17, 2002 Strangely one of the most one sided striking knockouts came when Carlson Gracie Sr. protege Vitor Belfort brutally KO'd feared striker Vanderlei Silva in under a minute with a relentless flurry of punches at UFC's Ultimate Brazil. I noticed the Sakuraba fights on your list Thai_Kick. I have to say he is one of my favorite fighters. It pains me that Pride keeps matching him up with one vicious fighter after another, usually at a substantial size disadvantage. I hope he can survive for a little while longer. One cannot choose to be passive without the option to be aggressive.
superleeds Posted November 20, 2002 Posted November 20, 2002 I think most of us on this forum have a bit of a biased paradigm towards the striking arts. I am not here to clean up, as I am an American Karate stylist and do not specialize in grappling, but I think it is best in the martial arts world to keep our minds open. I rewound watched the interception phase over and over again. It is quite obvious that the Karate guy displayed no sense of aliveness in his positioning, his body posture, and his arm movements the entire time up to the time that BJJ dude thrusted him into the wall. It is my opinion that the Karate guy probably never watched UFC, or even WWF (sorry, now it's E), and was also a bit confident in something he shouldn't be confident about. I am no black belt yet, but something has to be said understanding your opponent, and the strenghts and weaknesses of yourself (kinda like what guarddog was implying). I have experimented with grappling, and belive me, there can be a time for it. It might even be a good idea for me to cross train when I grab the time (pun intended). There is true wisdom in your words Read a book!
Phrost Posted November 25, 2002 Posted November 25, 2002 I agree diamond. The mcdojo.com people are pretty annoying, I dont go there all that often. I would like to know if there is a website that has lots of vs vid clips. Take Care Ummm.... How exactly are we annoying you? We post videos that people submit to us. If you have a video of a Karate stylist whooping up on a BJJ stylist, let us know and we'll post it as well. Kensai Posted November 26, 2002 Posted November 26, 2002 Sorry Phrost, but when I read the threads from your members, I can only be left with an impassable rage! They are appear to have a very very very closed minded attitude to all the traditional stylee, especially the Wudang Kung Fu. Just IMHO ofcourse. Take Care.
Radok Posted November 27, 2002 Posted November 27, 2002 I used to post at adcombat, but then I found this sight. If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point. Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate.
Severe Matburn Posted December 24, 2002 Posted December 24, 2002 2 of the styles I do r sambo(nearly the same as bjj) and karate(not shotokan) and that was juss sad. Fer the bjj guy, dat was the werst ground and pound i've ever seen...and the karate guy....wat the HELL was he doing...how dumb can he be...looked fixed to me... "razor elbows, killer knees, iron fists and monster kicks""Nice punch!!!, now let's see how well you punch with a broken arm"
m002 Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 The ground fighters wasn't a professional, and he could almost definitely do the same to the world's best Shotokan Karate fighters, this i sjust an example of one particular case. Had it been Kyokushin karate, then the BJJ guy would've had less of a chnce, but would still won I think - Kyokushin guy would be takendown too quickly.
