I am not sure that these are all entirely accurate (certainly the Karate section, in my opinion shoul dbe more "Modern Karate" as it's from Funakoshi Sensei onwards!), and I question the omission of the Chinese Arts in this round up. But with a bit more thought and input, it's quite a fun way of putting across some key points and certainly something for kids to look at when they start looking into the martial arts.

As with all sound-bite based round ups, it has it's flaws in it's generalisation and omissions. The format is pretty good though, and I imagine entertaining for children (whom appear to be the chosen audiance) but it would be best if they had some sort of menu for going between the arts covered.

Blackbelt Magazine is a far cry from what it used to be. Most of what it publishes seems to have taken on a cheap entertainment slant. It has become more and more difficult to gain or expect any quality information because of the overwhelming quantity of less-than-serious or poorly supported articles. It seems entirely more concerned with the latest trends rather than serious discussion about martial arts topics.

I certainly didn't acquire much, if any knowledge of history or the evolution of MA from this article except where it stated the "parent arts".

I feel like a beginner could make use of this if looking to start MA and they have zero idea regarding the differences between all the included arts. But there's certainly not much to be learned in regards to history and evolution from this.

I agree, Black Belt Magazine seems to have gone into an entertainment variant.

I remember when it was full of useful info for practitioners. I read ab article one which was about puncturing the eyeball and making it run red - seriously, we want real engaging articles.
