America seems to be big on MA.

In the UK its not as popular, I think it is a dying interest over here. Its a sad thing nowadays that people think they can walk into a dojo and get a black belt in a few months.

If that indeed is true about the MA is a dying interest over in the UK; that's depressing at all levels!! How is the MA a dying interest in the UK?

:-?

There seems to be less people interested in it anymore.

We have member beginning all of the time and they think they can get to the top in a year and this is not so.

If you tell some new member which I see that they will not be a black belt in a couple of months, they will not train but find another Dojo who will (for the right price ) make them a black belt in a couple of months.

When I say its a dying interest, I mean for serious practitioners, not just people interested in having a black belt around their waist.

My Sensei always says, "Its the person in the belt that matters, not the belt itself".

Its not just the UK. I live in a community of 100k, more if you count the outlying community, and we don't even have a boxing gym here! We have 3 karate schools in churches, one Kung Fu school, 5 TKD schools (most of which are McDojos), and one MMA/BJJ school which is really just an overpriced cashcow for a retired cop with little to no actually BJJ or MMA experience. No judo, no kempo, no Aikido, no Boxing, no kick boxing, nothing else. I'd like to think there would be a market for it, but the constant failure of numerous schools from all the arts listed above says otherwise.

I've always been a MA nerd, and I frankly just do not understand this at all. Every community should at least have a boxing gym, right!? What is wrong with society?

Society wants a quick-fix pill. There's no substitute for hard work, and once that reality slaps them in the face, they're out.

It's like the quote Mike Tyson said (can't remember the exact origin or eord for word):

"Everyone has a plan, until they get punched in the face."

Exactly, I like Dojo's that teach it as an art and not merely a sport.

I think the Dojo reflects on the art - some Dojo's may simply not want to teach the art but only the sport, this has an effect on people who want to learn the art.

My goal when I am driving is to differentiate between 'real' and 'fake' Dojo's. :P

I'm obsessed with MA too, a little too much people tell me.

Any conversation I a part of soon turns into karate - I think it annoys people.

There's nothing wrong with that; as a friend said to me today, its a passion and that is good dedication.

Every town should have at least one good MA school, especially with the amount of people who just want to fight nowadays. :karate:
